Pressure cooker Mississippi roast
October 20, 2019
So I bought our slow cooker probably three years ago and have NEVER used it, until about a week ago. I can't explain why I haven't used it, the whole thing just scared me. It seemed like learning a foreign language. Well, a few weeks ago I decided I was going to try it and it wasn't too bad at all. I have used it a few times and am still learning the ins and outs of the machine.
Here is the model that I have, we bought it on an impulse during Black Friday.
Its the Faberware 7-in-1.
I decided to try my hand at a roast today. I have NOT thawed the meat, its from the deep freeze and solid as a rock. So, let's see how this goes.
Since we are remodeling I do not have an oven or stove. I have been trying to use this magical pot and learn it more.
The roast doesn't fit so well, its frozen and wont fit the other way. I dumped in the gravy mix, onion soup, salt and pepper. Tossed in some water and 6 TBL butter. I set the pot for 90 minutes and crossed my fingers.
It immediately started smelling delicious.
I left it cooking for 90 minutes and allowed it to naturally release the pressure. Here is the result:
HOLY Moses. It was falling apart, and DELICIOUS.
After I removed the roast, I added diced potatoes ( I didn't have any carrots in the house) into the juices from the roast and pressed the "vegetable/steam" option and left that sucker alone. I then stopped the cooking with about 4 minutes left and did a "quick release". Poured that over the roast in bowls and YUM.
I am mainly writing this for myself to remember how I did it: So future self- you're welcome for the reminder of this meal.
Recipe:
1 frozen as a rock roast (3-4 lb)
1 envelope of onion soup mix
1 envelope of brown gravy mix
6 TBL butter
1.5 cups water
Potatoes
The how
Put roast in the pot, cover with onion soup, brown gravy mix, add water and butter.
Set time cook for 90 minutes
Let pressure naturally release
Once pressure is released, remove roast and set aside
Add potatoes to the remaining juices and set pot to "Steam/Vegetables"
After desired amount of time quick release steam and serve
